TREND CATCH: RECURRING 90’s FASHION
90’s baby!! Oh yes, I can
definitely swag some air of fashion connection here. Though it was the decade
of my childhood, I was aware and have a vivid picture of the fashion scene
since I was already dipping into those trends.
Late 90’s was the highlight for
me, I was around nine that time and platform sneakers, cute-sy crazy hair clips
all over, bubble bags, etc. were the frenzy. Can’t forget the music fad of
popular groups that I died for such as Backstreet Boys, Nsync, TLC, The Corrs to
name a few. But this one is the ultimate!!! Spice Girls!! Holla 90’s babies!!! Whoah,
I worship them! I love their style, songs, faces, everything about them! *LOL*
Ok coming back, I got lost in
nostalgia there. Haha! It just feels like yesterday! And having it in full
swing in the fashion world these days attached a string to the wonderful
memories of my childhood. But I must say like any other trends out there, 90’s
fashion has some serious looks that doesn’t deserve its way to 2013. *LOL* Though
I’m quite confident that “fashionistas” these days know how to break those
stale trends to fit into the modern trend without leaving individuality in the
bag.
So here’s the maven’s top list of
90’s fashion with modern resurrection:
GRUNGE (FLANNEL SHIRT, COMBAT BOOTS, RIPPED JEANS). Grunge is the
complete opposite of high fashion. It’s a bit dark, a marriage of punk ethic
and outdoor wear due to the influence of the 80’s heavy metal popular bands.
To achieve this look you can:
layer clothes, wear flannel shirts, baggy clothes, ripped jeans, combat boots
and have an undone/messy hair. It target to look effortless yet seems put
together.
Modern take: Here’s some style
tip you can try to achieve a modern grunge look. 1) Tear acid washed jeans or
ripped leggings, a statement top and a beanie 2) Oversized shirt, ripped jean
shorts with a waist tied flannel shirt and sneakers
CROPPED TOP AND MIDI’S. Oh yes it’s all over, it is one trend of
the 90’s that almost everyone effortlessly loved. Cropped top and midi
skirts/shorts/pants are match made in heaven. Tops like these can attract
unlikely sneaks, tip for this is to wear high waist bottoms. This will help in
covering more skin and revealing the midriff only, in this way you keep some
modesty. Remember, less is more! *wink*
OVERALLS/ JUMPER. 90’s dungarees were also a massive trend, almost
every closet had it! Even mine when I was a child. HAHA! They wear it with an
oversized shirt back then and bring a utilitarian look. My modern take on it is
to choose a 1) jean jumper shorts mixed with a tight fitting top or 2)a jumper
skirt with a non-jean fabric, maybe cotton with nice print to match our humid
weather and a cropped top for some allure.
